The kouros has been expertly cleaned, pieced together, restored and mounted on a plinth. It now takes pride of place facing the entrance to the main museum gallery and its full beauty is breathtaking.
The other most important statue from the find is a Hellenistic figure of Asklepios, the god of medicine, from 2nd century BC. It is only partially complete but would have stood over 3 metres tall. It is considered to be a masterpiece, displaying superb workmanship, and one of the finest such sculptures ever found.
Other statues include a smaller Asklepios, a figure of Athena, goddess of wisdom, a small boy and a sculpture of Hermaphrodite, a deity associated with sports that has both breasts and male genitalia.
